What problem?  Fisrt of all it takes months to years to deform a
skull. Every time the child is taken from the bed the pressure is
off and the amazingly elastic bones tend to go back to their
original position.  You act as if the child will never turn their
head from side to side.  

The Mayans deliberately deformed the skulls of their children by
tying boards to their heads for months on end.  Despite this
"problem" managed to develop a civilization, mathematics,
astronomy, medicine, architecture, a written language, religion,
and warfare.
