Disability council did "nothing" in 2005, '06 minutes missing
No significant motions, recommendations, "nothing" . . .
June 28, 2007

Richmond, VA -- Someday soon the Virginia government will get smarter
about hiding the fact it does nothing to protect the rights of the
mentally disabled, but for now it's obvious.
In the first six months of 2005, the Virginia Disability Advisory
Council voted twice to approve minutes of previous meetings and twice
to adjourn.

That's it.

Table 1 contains the entire year of Disabilities Advisory Council
work; and significant numbers of meeting minutes are missing for other
years including 2006.

Here is what the Council did in 2005:

=B7 Approved meeting minutes 4 times
=B7 Adjourned 4 times
=B7 Elected new "leader****p"
=B7 Dealt with an attendance problem

The Virginia Office of Protection and Advocacy mission statement
claims " through zealous and effective advocacy" they "protect and
advance legal, human, and civil rights of persons with disabilities."

What were the "zealous and effective" activities of this council?
Eating lunch?

This is abhorrent, because disabled citizens had a government
sponsored op****tunity to help other disabled citizens and instead they
screwed them over by treating the op****tunity like some kind of "UN
Rose Garden Party" invitation.

The Governor and the Virginia State Legislature provided for the
disabled and their so-called advocates to have a voice in setting
policy, and the people on the Disabilities Advisory Council threw it
away.
Here's the list of members of the Disabilities Advisory Council from
their Web page.

David Wilber, Chair
Van Johnson, Vice-Chair
Elaine E. Senft
Betty Fredrichsen
Eric Clark
Edward W. Senft
Larry Fredrichsen
Julie Palmer
Edward Zeigler
