Forgot to add--there's two kinds of hcg testing. One is called 
qualitative betahcg, which only gives you a positive/negative answer.
(Similar to the home hpts).

The quantitative betahcg test actually gives you the number in units of 
the amount of hcg in your system at the time and is a better predictor
somewhat of a successful pregnancy--that's why they repeat the test
a few days later--if the numbers gone up, it's usually a good thing. :-)
