It's an Orb Weaver, or garden spider. Just like Charlotte. This is the
kind of spider that spins the typical looking wheel shaped spider web. It
is the 3rd most common type of spider found in the world, with lots of
variations in size and color. They are shy and reluctant to bite,
although
if they do, their venom is potent, but not dangerous to humans.
I wouldn't kill it. It's doing you a great service eating all sorts of
moths and other flying insects. Leave it be, if at all possible, and use
it
as a teaching tool. If the web is in an inconvenient location, such as
across your walkway or something, then I'd wait until it's not in it's
web,
and then take the web down with a broom. It will probably rebuild, but if
you do this several times, it should get the clue and move on. It's
amazing
though, as it will completely rebuild it's web over night.
Great photo!
