Hi,
My husband and I are considering using donor eggs to try and get
pregnant. Since we are both older we are concerned with the safety,
success rate and health for both mother and child. We have the
following questions. If anyone can provide answers (either through
personal experience or second-hand) or can direct us where we can get
them, we would greatly appreciate it! Our questions mainly have to
do with the effect of age on the success of the procedure. We know
that with a "younger" egg, there will be much less chance of genetic
defects. However, we would like to know how maternal age may affect
the success of this procedure. We have been to specialists and done
our own Internet research but there doesn't seem to be a lof of
information about this.
Our questions are:
For women 47 and older who attempt the procedure:
1. What are the chances that the child will be born early, underweight
or small?
2. What are the chances that the child will be born with some health
problem (such as cerebral palsey) that may be related to developmental
conditions in an older womb?
3. What are the chances that the woman will suffer some medical problem
such as hypertension.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Ann
