When I first posted to this group dh's friends' social worker with the
state offered him a 3 week old baby and he told them about us. Anyway,
we tried to work it so we could get approved to bring the baby in our
home before we went through our training. It didn't work out then, but
he was put in a foster home.
Well, we finished our last training class, and are one home visit away
from certification. The only reason we aren't finished is because our
home development worker is booked up and won't be able to get to our
house until May!
Well, the baby, now 5 months is still available, and they are already
working towards termination of parental rights. He has a cleft lip and
palatte which will require several surgeries, but he will be fine after
that. The baby is in a foster home that can not adopt it, so the
social worker wants to move him to an adoptive resource home. She is
trying to get approval from her supervisor.
If it works out, we will first visit the baby a couple times at the
foster parents' house so they can work with us on some of his special
needs he has for now. If we both feel we can handle him, we will take
him for a weekend, then another, and eventually he will live with us
and we will adopt him.
There is still a lot of uncertainty, so we are gonna just take it one
day at a time.
