It is done everyday. And, many babies are delivered by interns and
nurses when the family believes the child was delivered by their own
Obstetrician who may not even be in the hospital at the time of the
birth.

Nurses can tell some real horror stories about what sometimes happens.
And nurses are threatened to "Keep your mouth shut, or else...."

Do patients really need to know that one or more of these strangers
may not have any experience doing that crucial task?
The patients are largely unaware of these goings-on, and that might be
the best thing.
