Oh, yeah, Theo, very helpful! <g>
Maddy, Theo gave you the gist of it, basically that you can feed a whole
lot more people with the grains, etc, that are fed to cattle to produce
far less meat to feed far less people, and after the trans****tation costs
of moving the grain around to feed the cattle, and moving the cattle
around from farm to slaugherhouse, and then moving the meat from
processing plant to market (or to places that make people food, cat food
and dog food) and then finally to the grocery stores and restaurants -
that's a lot of petroleum out the smokestack in the form of CO2 and other
stuff.
Additionally, believe it or not, we raise so many cattle that the amount
of methane (which is a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2) produced
from their collective backsides is a significant ****tion of the manmade
causes of global warming.
Lastly, if you read a book called "The China Study", you will find that
the key to defeating the major Western diseases of obesity, heart
disease, diabetes and cancer is making sure that meat and animal products
is less than 10% of your diet. The rest should be fresh fruits and
vegetables.
Or, you can think like Theo, and figure that since we are all doomed
anyways because, collectively, humanity is too god-forsakenly stupid to
stop itself, so we may as well eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow we,
and the rest of all life on this planet (except the cockroaches), die.
Love and Light,
Garry
