J, why not? Stranger things have happened in this world. We here in the
Western World have long overlooked the spiritual side of life, dismissing
it as sheer superstition. But the more I delve into spiritual subjects,
the more I find out that we are missing out on a lot, maybe even the most
im****tant part of life!

You may not know, but apart from being a Reiki practitioner, I'm also a
taijiquan and qigong student. 10 years ago, if someone had asked me about
any of this, I would have laughed my head off and accused them of being
ignorant, superstitious dumbbells. Well, one day at the gym, a lady
showed up to start a taiji class, and I had always wanted to do a martial
art, so I signed up, having no idea what taiji was. She started spouting
off about all this oriental nonsense, and some mystical energy called
'qi', and I thought to myself "yadda, yadda, yadda, lady, let's skip the
bull**** and get on with the martial art". But I kept my mouth shut, my
ears open, and followed instructions, and a few months later, I had the
experience of qi circulating through my body during one of our exercises
and realized that maybe there's something to this stuff after all? Maybe
it just needs a good scientific study to explain it in ordinary terms and
get the "superstitious bull****" out of it, but there must be something
going on.

Hah! I didn't know the half of it. One day I heard the teacher talking in
a lowered voice with one of the other students and overheard the word
"Reiki". I asked what that was, and the teacher, knowing what kind of a
hard-core skeptic I was, just said it was "very spiritual" and let it go
at that. I couldn't pry anything else out of her, and since class was
over, I went on my way and left them to finish their conversation. Over
the next 2 weeks, everywhere I went I ran into people mentioning Reiki to
me, and previously, I had never heard of the thing! The next time I saw
my taiji teacher, I mentioned it and she said, "Maybe the Universe is
trying to tell you something?" Which, for me, was a bizarre thought in
and of itself. I had never conceived of the Universe as a single entity,
much less an intelligent entity that might be interested in giving me
hints. Immediately after that I signed up for a qigong class, and lo and
behold, the person next to me in class turned out to be a Reiki teacher.
Talk about coincidences! Needless to say, I signed up, and it was all
over except for waiting for the fat lady to sing.

Maybe not as exciting as having grandpa visit long after the funeral, but
I'm convinced there's more to life than meets the eye. :-)

Love and Light,

Garry
