Greetings all.
The subject of Reiki History is a precarious thing. The Western
version of history is colored by the prejudices of William Rand, while
Japanese Reiki History is argued to be false and invalid, the claims
being Reiki originated in the United States.
I am in the process of conducting research into Modern Reiki History
because I would like to see an end to the "I attended a Hiro**** Doi
seminar along with many other Western students but have the exclusive
right to provide what he said to My student base".
On December 4th, 2007 I initiated a "controversial" article on
Wikipedia: Timeline of Reiki History. I say that it's controversial
because it seems some people want Reiki History kept out of public
eye. For some reason it needs to be kept secret and sacred, perhaps
because the shroud of secrecy no longer surrounds the Reiki Symbols.
The public article that anyone may begin to edit is located here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Reiki_history
I would really like to see more awareness of the article. If you have
a website, please link to it.
If you can add to the article and have the printed source of the
reference available, please do. If you would like me to make the entry
I will, just zip me the details.
I really hope that this public history of Reiki will add a greater
degree of accuracy to it. Oral history can be nice and motivational.
History presented from one individual will be biased and prejudiced no
matter who is writing it.
If as a community we reach out and begin contributing our knowledge to
the whole, eventually an accurate history will emerge.
Please participate in this project for the benefit of all Reiki
practitioners, present and future.
Sincerely,
Stephen Buck,
Reiki Master Teacher
